Before any Budweiser deal, these statistics show that leading international markets for InBev beers include Brazil, China and Russia.

Selling more than 230 million hectoliters of brew around the world in 2007, Belgium-based InBev is the world’s largest beer maker by volume. Last year, company revenues were US$22.5 billion.

But as the statistics below show, InBev has a minor position in the overall U.S. beer market. While InBev owns over 200 beer brands globally including Beck’s and Stella Artois, American sales of InBev brands currently represent under 2% of the company’s worldwide beer sales.

Proposed Anheuser-Busch Takeover

U.S. beer sales statistics will change significantly should InBev successfully acquire American suds giant Anheuser-Busch, best known for its Budweiser brands. Anheuser-Busch has been much slower to globally market its products than InBev, but commands 49% of the U.S. beer market.

According to Money Morning’s Jennifer Yousfi, InBev’s proposed deal would create a global beer behemoth that sells 350 million hectoliters of beer annually. Under that scenario, the percentage of InBev’s global beer sales that American drinkers represent would leap from less than 2% to 35%.
